The new gallery is set to open in June with gallery founders currently seeking submissions from trained makers and designers for its inaugural show The Makers Exhibition.
Co-owner Tara Poole said the gallery was calling on craftspeople, artisans, woodworkers, ceramicists and textile makers to contribute to the gallery's first exhibition that had been designed to showcase "art meets retail".
"We want to use our inaugural exhibition to profile and celebrate makers and crafters - people who have trained for years to develop a skill to make amazingly beautiful items for others to purchase and enjoy," she said.
"We want to restore the true meaning of retail and to ensure people understand that there are makers and designers on their doorstep waiting to be able to demonstrate their skills.
"It's incredibly important that as consumers we consider closely where items are made and designed, as it is too easy to simply buy products that have been mass produced overseas and imported.
"The Exhibition is a chance to meet the makers."
Ms Poole and co-owner Stephen Pigott said they're looking forward to adding to Ballarat's vibrant artistic community.
"Through establishing The Lost Ones we wish to introduce art and creative activities that will complement what already exists here in the city," Ms Toole said.
"We are keen to work with the existing artistic community, but we are also striking out to introduce new people to the idea of creativity, making and building."
There are only a small number of slots still available for craftspeople over the three day event in June which will see works from lithographer David Frazer, furniture maker Olivia O'Connor and jeweller Amelia Kingston on display.
The Lost Ones gallery is located at 14 Camp Street.
