Dany The Fox has transferred from Mick Price to Alexander since a last-start ninth at Mornington on March 28.
The six-year-old has won seven times for almost $400,000 in stakes.
The Wangoom will also mark the return to racing of Clanga’s Glory for Ballarat trainer Andrew Payne. Now an 8yo, Clanga’s Glory has not raced since August, 2013. He was steadily working his way through the classes at the time with two wins in that preparation, plus a close-up fourth to The Cleaner in the David Bourke Provincial Plate, 1610m, at Flemington and second to Magnifique Soleil in the listed Winter Championship Series final at Flemington.
Meanwhile, Alexander landed the money with another stable newcomer at Geelong on Sunday. Having his first start for Alexander since being transferred from Mark Kavanagh’s care, Irish-bred Dalaniwave ($26) won a benchmark64 handicap, 1900m.
The 5yo mare now has three wins in 12 starts for almost $30,000 in stakes.
JAMES Wardeiner is confident newcomer Gardener’s Glory can kick on after scoring on debut at Cranbourne on Friday.
Gardener’s Glory has taken a bit longer to get to the races than his Ballarat trainer had hoped due to foot issues, but Wardeiner is feeling good about the 3yo’s future.
“He’s improved each time we’ve raised the bar,” he said.
“He’s been a little pro right through.”
Gardener’s Glory ($21) took out a maiden, 1000m, under lights after racing midfield on the rails and pushing out shortly after straightening for home.
Gardener’s Glory is by Floral Pegasus and raced by Doug Millhouse.
Wardeiner said he was offered the gelding while doing some breaking for Danny Rose at Cherokee Rose Stud in Central Victoria.
Wardeiner believes Gardner’s Glory will go even better over more ground and is looking to test him over 1300m at Cranbourne in his next assignment.
NEIL Pfeiffer is another Ballarat trainer upbeat about a lightly raced member of his stable.
Racing for just the third time, Prepee ($2.10 favourite) scored in a maiden, 975m, at Swan Hill on Sunday.
The Domesday 3yo filly was second on debut at Pakenham before finishing well down the track at Flemington.
This time she was prominent from the outset, being one of the best to jump and then easing to midfield before driving hard over the last 200m.
Pfeiffer said Prepee had always shown “a fair bit” and he felt she would now go on over longer trips.
DARREN Weir winners are coming on a daily basis at the moment.
Now And Zen ($1.45 favourite), having his first jumps start, gave him success for the sixth-consecutive day in the opening maiden hurdle, 3200m, at Warrnambool on Tuesday.
Weir went on to complete a treble with Shakudo ($4.40 favourite) in a maiden, 1200m, and Zanteca ($2.70 favourite) in a benchmark78, 2350m.
Weir began the run in Ballarat on Thursday and it includes the Masters of Arts ($3) in a 3yo, 2000m at Caulfield on Saturday and Atlantis Dream ($5.50) in the group 2 $175,000 Queens of the South Sakes, 1600m, at Morphettville on the same day.
Atlantis Dream has been sparingly raced since winning on debut at Echuca in October, 2011, with the now-6yo boasting six wins in 14 starts for close to $300,000 in stakes.
The latest run has Weir well on target to break his personal record of 253 winners Australia-wide last season.
