Paralympics: win for Australia in wheelchair rugby

AUSTRALIA’S wheelchair rugby team has opened its London Paralympics campaign with a win.

Featuring Buninyong paralympic veteran Greg Smith, Australia defeated Canada 64-52.

Smith was one of the team’s four starters, playing 14 minutes.

He scored two goals as Australia out-scored Canada in each quarter.

Ryley Batt was the offensive star for Australia, scoring 37 goals.

Australia is playing in group B, which also includes Sweden and Belgium.

Group A features the United States, Great Britain, Japan and France.

Australia’s next assignment is against Sweden tonight at 11pm (AEST).

Semi-finals will be played on Saturday, with medal deciders on Sunday.
