What's on? Popular acts hit our stages

THERE are some incredible live performances happening tonight.

Melbourne six-piece band Alpine is playing at the Karova Lounge and my friend says they are hands down the best Aussie band around. You can only imagine how excited she was when she heard they were coming to Ballarat, so, of course she is heading along. The doors open at 8.30pm and tickets cost $15, which you can buy on the door.

However, if you're up for a night out of town, Julia Stone is performing in Castlemaine as part of her national tour. Castlemaine is about a 75-minute drive from Ballarat.

I first fell in love with Julia's music when her and her brother Angus released the song Big Jet Plane, which, of course, went viral around the world and made me like it that little bit less - ah well!

Julia is playing at the Theatre Royal and tickets cost $40. For bookings, visit www.juliastonemusic.com

As for me, I'm heading to one of my favourite little pubs in Williamstown named the Steam Packet Inn. I plan to order one of their amazing cob loafs, the Turkish lamb salad and a glass of Fox Creek 'Duet' Cabernet Merlot. Yum!

Feature event

Alpine is playing at Karova or head out of town to Castlemaine to see Julia Stone perform. As for me, I'm heading to one of our favourite pubs for a quiet wine and delicious pub meal.

Something at the cinema

The Expendables 2 is screening at 4.45pm, 7.05pm and 9.20pm. Otherwise treat yourself to a Gold Class session at 6.30pm.

The Bourne Legacy is screening at 9.15pm. Or head along to a Gold Class session at 8.45pm.

Hope Springs is screening at 4.45pm and 8.35pm.

Something on TV

I love cooking shows. There is something really soothing about them. Jamie's Thirty Minute Meals is on Ten tonight at 7.30pm. Or jump on board finals fever and flick over to the AFL Footy Show on WIN at 9.30pm.
