Tragically, Dr Miller’s life-long bid to incorporate complementary medical techniques alongside the traditional Western approach was cut short when he died, aged 60, of a heart attack in October last year.
But his memory and medical work will now live on with the Chris Miller Foundation for Integrative Medicine launched by friends and colleagues following his death.
Clinical adviser at the Menssana Mindbody Medicine clinic Dr Kevin Harper said on Friday the foundation would encourage other doctors to take his good friend’s approach to medicine and treatment.
“He did what worked. He offered people what he was passionate about, including neurofeedback, nutritionals and counselling, alongside conventional general practice services,” Dr Harper said.
“Chris’ tragic and sudden death has left a big void, but also a big vision – a vision of a time where the use of complementary medical techniques would be a part of the normal spectrum of services offered in primary healthcare facilities,” he said
The foundation aims to publicly advocate for the integration of complementary medicine by providing grants and scholarships and sponsoring speakers and events to promote integrative medicine to medical practitioners.
It will be officially launched with a concert at the Ballarat Mechanics Institute on May 24.
