THE subject of a massive police manhunt launched last Friday has finally surrendered.
Kyle Green, 25, was flanked by lawyers Mike Wardell and David Tamanika when he handed himself into the Ballarat Police Station just after 1.30pm yesterday.
Police shot at Green last Friday during an arrest attempt.
He was wanted for questioning by police for drug and burglary offences. Green did not say anything during the surrender, but waved at supporters who had gathered near the police station.
Mr Wardell told waiting media he planned to challenge the allegations against his client.
“It is in everyone’s interests if the circumstances of the shots being fired are investigated properly,” he said.
A police member intercepted Green’s vehicle at the intersection of Dodds Lane and Otway Street South on Friday August 31 at 3.20pm.
Police fired upon Green after he allegedly refused to comply with police directions.
He fled in a vehicle which was later recovered on an unmade road in the Mt Clear area.
More than a dozen police vehicles combed Ballarat for traces of Green following the shooting –and even called in the air wing – but couldn’t locate the 25 year old.
Detectives from Ballarat Criminal Investigation Unit interviewed Green yesterday afternoon over a number of alleged incidents dating back to February, including serious assault, pursuits and drug offences.
He is now facing 25 charges including recklessly cause serious injury, traffic drug of dependence, affray, conduct endangering life, drive manner dangerous and other traffic offences.
Green faced the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court late yesterday and was remanded in custody to appear at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on October 4.
He did not apply for bail.
