Signing up for a very good cause

RUN Ballarat is gaining momentum as it approaches  the big date, with more than 1200 participants already signed up.

Larissa Murphy recently submitted her application and completed the 1000th registration.

The October 21 fundraiser for the children’s ward at Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital hopes to assist in the redevelopment and redesign to give better care to the young people of Ballarat.

Ms Murphy, who is a registered nurse for the children’s ward said: “I knew straight away that I’d be taking part.

“I’ll be taking part in the walk with my family and friends – they’d all signed up before I’d even mentioned it to them. We’ll band together.”

Even though Ms Murphy works at the children’s ward, she said that was not her only motivation for joining the good cause.

“I’d be taking part even if I didn’t work at the hospital,” she said.

“Hospitals need help from events like this, especially regional hospitals and especially children’s wards.”

Run Ballarat will include a 12-kilometre run, a six-kilometre run and a six-kilometre walk through Ballarat’s city centre.
