Golf City Ballarat was robbed of about $20,000 worth of stock, cash, computers and a safe on Sunday night.

Thieves smashed through the roller door lock and jimmied open glass doors to gain entry to the building about 11pm.

Owner Ben Roberts said he was disappointed his Learmonth Road shop had been burgled for the second time in four years.

"We have made it like Fort Knox to get into the place," he said.

"The alarms were sounded and when police came about eight or nine minutes later, (the thieves) had left."

Mr Roberts said the thieves took about $300 from a float in the till, an empty safe and several bags of drivers estimated to be worth $20,000.

He said the biggest inconvenience was having some of the computer equipment stolen.

"We haven't had to close the shop but the inconvenience is with the computers," he said.

"We can't follow up on accounts or do stock take."

Mr Roberts urged all Ballarat businesses to remain vigilant, regardless if they had security measures in place.

"As a business owner you can't take it for granted that you won't be broken into," he said.

"We thought we were as safe as we could possibly be."

Ballarat police have not arrested or charged anyone in relation to the incident.

The burglary follows a spate of thefts that have hit the Ballarat region in recent weeks.

Early on Tuesday morning thieves burgled three petrol stations, Ballarat Community Health Centre and Pipers by the Lake.

Local tradies have also been targeted, with trailers and tools stolen.
