Ballarat Community Health’s new Lucas facility has been shortlisted in the 2015 Australian Institute of Architecture awards.
The project, worth about $14 million, beat 600 other entries to be shortlisted as one of three in the regional prize category.
Melbourne-based architects Design Inc will learn whether their Ballarat building will take home the prize on June 26.
Nicholson Construction, which built the facility, has also been nominated in the Master Builders Association of Victoria Awards, to be announced on June 19.
BCH chief executive Robyn Reeves said she was pleased by the nominations.
“To have achieved something like this in such a short period of time is really wonderful,” she said.
“It is very exciting just to have been shortlisted.”
The Lucas facility opened last July and includes GP, sexual health and podiatry services.
It also has a gym, conference and meeting rooms, consultation suites and office facilities.
Ms Reeves said the architects created an environmentally sustainable building.
“There are lots of recycled materials used in the building,” she said.
“There’s a water tank in the car park, the timber is recycled messmate and there’s a vegie garden.”
The roof is also covered in solar panels.
The Lucas centre was jointly funded by BCH and the federal government’s Health and Hospitals Infrastructure Fund.
All AIA awards designs will be exhibited at Federation Square from May 27.
