That's right, fossil fuel companies are getting $10 million a minute in subsidies more than the health spending of all of the world's governments put together.
This hideously polluting sector is driving global warming that gravely threatens our food and water security, our economy, our way of life to the very core. Yet, it can't even stand on its own two feet.
Right now nine massive coal mines proposed for Queensland's Galilee basin would massively increase carbon emissions, seriously worsening global warming, if allowed to proceed. They would also inflict immeasurable damage on our precious Great Barrier Reef.
As if that's not crazy enough, all indicators are that these obscenely destructive mining ventures won't even cut a profit.
Last September The Climate Council: Joint Statement on the Health Effects of Coal in Australia formally recorded that coal mining and burning releases carcinogens. In the US alone 50,000 deaths each year are attributed to air pollution from coal-fired power generation.
It's really not that complicated. The time has arrived to transition from highly destructive fossil fuels to smart, clean, safe renewables.
