Hylton Sedgman, 87, is charged with 40 offences of carnal knowledge and indecent assault allegedly committed in Ballarat and Queenscliff between 1963 and 1964 against six girls and one boy.
Magistrate Gerard Lethbridge, sitting in Melbourne Magistrates Court, granted an application on Friday by defence barrister John Goetz to adjourn the committal mention hearing at which Mr Sedgman, who lives in Queensland, did not have to attend.
The matter was adjourned until July 17.
