The Courier understands it has been alleged that Simpson was involved in a confrontation with officiating umpires following Bungaree’s 26-point win over the Tigers at Wallace.
It is understood Simpson has then made a follow-up phone call to one of the umpires.
While not commenting on the specifics of the matter, Ballarat Football Umpires Association operation administrator Liam Brady supported the league’s probe.
“The BFUA welcomes that the Central Highlands Football League sees fit that this goes to an investigation,” Brady said.
“The BFUA will co-operate fully in the investigation throughout its process.”
A CHFL-appointed independent investigator will work through the incident and return a recommendation to the league following discussions and interviews with those involved.
CHFL administrator Diane Ryan said once the investigator has been appointed, he or she will have 21 working days to file a report to the league.
“If the investigator believes there is a case to answer, it could be directed to go to tribunal by the league,” Ryan said.
“The investigator can make recommendations; the league decides whether to go through with them.”
Simpson confirmed he is the subject of the investigation and said he would co-operate fully as proceedings take place.
Bungaree backed up its win over the Tigers in last year’s grand final, kicking clear after half-time to continue its undefeated start to the season and remain clear on top of the ladder.
