The Vikings overcame a slow start to account for Keilor Wolves 4-0 in round six action on the road on Sunday.
The visitors struggled with the Keilor pitch and the Wolves’ physicality early, but still managed a slender 1-0 lead at half-time.
Kass Stabb rewarded coach Peter Maggi for her first starting game this season, finding the back of the net at the 31-minute mark, shortly after Meg Brennan denied Keilor the opener with a clearance off the goal line.
The Vikings maintained the lead heading into the break, and swiftly blew the Wolves out of the water on the restart.
Daniela Weinrich started the rout, finding the back of the net at the 47- and 52-minute marks, while Bree Coombes put any notion of a Keilor fightback to rest with a goal at the 62-minute mark.
Maggi said it was a pleasing win, given Sebastopol’s slow start.
“The ground was difficult to play on and that showed in the first term,” he said.
“We played well; there was nothing wrong with our style of play, but they were a physical team, which was not totally unexpected.
“We said at half-time that if that’s the style of play they want to play, then we’ve got the girls to take it to them and we really stepped up and took control of the game.”
Maggi said Stabb played a “blinder” off the wing, and described Sebastopol’s defence as “rock solid”.
The Vikings have conceded only one goal this season, but have found the back of the net 35 times. They will host Kyneton District in round seven action on Sunday.
