The Ballarat-based WestVic was one of four teams on the same points battling for second to fifth positions going into round six.
The convincing performance means WestVic is ahead of Werribee on goal difference, but a game clear of Knox and Monash University.
PEGS is unbeaten and two games clear on top.
Coach Nathan Burgess made a number of structural changes to address issues in a disappointing loss to Monash – shifting Nathan Hargreaves into defence and youngster Edward Jackson into the midfield.
The changes had an immediate positive impact, with Hargreaves linking up well with defenders Nathan Geagan, Al Cardew, Fenn Dawson and Michael Churcher to swiftly pass the ball out of the backline.
Michael Churcher and striker Ewan Wallin scored before half-time, and then Toby Hoy and Ewan Wallin doubled the tally.
WestVic will take on PEGS in a big game at Prince of Wales Park on Saturday at 2pm.
