FOR most eight-year-old boys, having a haircut is nothing out of the ordinary.
But not Ryan Friedrichs. The grade 2 pupil at Mt Clear Primary School had not had a haircut for five years.
Before he docked his locks on Saturday, he had only had two trims in his entire life.
Tired of being bullied and being told he looked like a girl, Ryan decided earlier this year that it was finally time to chop his beloved hair.
However he was determined to make some good of it all. Ryan managed to accrue more than $10,000 cash for the cancer support charity CanTeen.
A small crowd watched on as Ryan took to the razor at the Lake Wendouree Football Club, where he had just competed in a junior football match.
Asked what he thought of his new look, Ryan seemed a little lost for words.
“It just feels weird,” he said.
