A HANDFUL of Ballarat region community groups have received a funding boost from Waubra wind farm operator Acciona.

The operator handed out more than $20,000 to 12 local community groups as part of its 2015 community sponsorship program.
Waubra Football and Netball Team, Ballarat and Districts Quarter Horse Association, Ballarat Lawn Tennis Club, Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre, Beaufort Secondary College, Cultivate Agribusiness Central Highlands, Friends of Learmonth, Lexton Golf Club, Miners Rest Public School, Stag Hotel in Learmonth, Sustainable Environment Arts Movement and Westvic Academy of Sport shared in the funding.
Acciona Waubra Wind Farm site manager Melanie Robertson said the company received many quality sponsorship applications this year.
“The Waubra wind farm community sponsorship program is a way of ensuring the benefits of renewable energy projects are spread throughout rural and regional communities,” she said.
Applications for Acciona’s 2016 community sponsorship program will open early next year.
