The city's youth have the opportunity to gain connections with organisations including Aussie Action Abroad, Road to Refuge and World Vision at the 2015 Ballarat Young Global Ambassadors forum this Friday.
City of Ballarat Youth engagement officer Kate Moran said this year's forum will link in with Refugee Week.
“The forum will link in with this year’s theme for Refugee Week ‘with courage let us all combine’. Encouraging young people to not settle for just shaking their fists angrily about social injustices, but finding the courage to take action for change,” she said.
She said youth between the ages of 12-25 who are encouraged to attend the event have an opportunity to be actively engaged in the community.
“We hope they will find inspiration, motivation and a view of the bigger picture,” she said.
“As global citizens, we all have a responsibility to lift our game and look after each other. With the wealth, health, resources and technology we have, comes a responsibility to act locally and globally to challenge atrocities such as global hunger - things that just should not exist in this age.
“This generation of young people have a strong sense of social justice and many seek out opportunities to volunteer locally and abroad. The enthusiasm is inspiring and gives us reason to be very positive about the future.
“Turn your passion and drive into the change you want to see in the world. One person can do so much and as a collective we can be incredibly powerful.”
The forum will be held at the Mount Clear College Gay Gough Theatre between 10am-2.30pm.
