- Weather: It's been the coldest morning in Melbourne since August last year, sitting at just 2.6 degrees in the city at 6.30am. We're heading for a top of 13. Areas of frost and fog will clear to a mostly sunny day, according to the weather bureau. Mornings in the week ahead promise to be warmer, with a forecast of eight degrees for tomorrow. By Tuesday afternoon the bureau expects rain.
- Metro is working on the City Loop all weekend. These lines will run direct to Flinders Street and not go via the loop: Cranbourne, Frankston, Hurstbridge, Pakenham, Sandringham, South Morang. Meanwhile, buses will replace trains beween North Melbourne and Craigieburn on the Craigieburn Line all weekend.
- Overnight, A police blitz of thousands of cars in the eastern suburbs has nabbed 18 drink-drivers over the limit. Knox and Maroondah Highway Patrol police officers conducted 2892 preliminary breath tests on Saturday night under Operation Snookered, which resulted in 18 positive returns including a blood alcohol reading of 0.168. The operation also uncovered nine drug-affected drivers.
- Around the world, a racist website has emerged with photos of the Charleston massacre suspect; a car has ploughed into a crowd of shoppers in Austria; and a parachutist has been saved in a dramatic mid-air rescue.
