THE people of Ballan once again have a library they can call their own.
After the town had been without a library for four decades, the Ballan Library was officially opened on Saturday.
In addition to the newly-commissioned mobile library van service that operates throughout the Moorabool Shire, the library is now open twice a week.
It has been operating since July, but was officially opened at the weekend.
Rural library officer Kerith Holmes said there had already been strong support of the service in a few short months.
“We average about 120 people coming in less than four hours every Saturday, which is great,” she said.
“The library shut down in the 1960s and nobody is really sure why. It is great to have it back though and there a lot of people that benefit from it.”
The library van also visits Dunnstown, Bungaree, Gordon, Blackwood, Elaine and Leigh Creek.
