Ballarat’s typically cold and wet conditions will see a cease in long term repairs to potholes and damaged road services.

However, temporary repairs are still able to be completed ahead of proper repairs in the warmer months. 

The Western Highway duplication in particular will see significant down time.

VicRoads regional director Ewen Nevett has advised that the lessening of repair services is standard procedure.

"We have made great progress on a number of projects so far this year, but cold temperatures and wet conditions mean that most construction and resealing works cannot take place over the next few months," Mr Nevett said. 

"Winter weather conditions are always factored into our plans though, so there will be scheduled down time on projects like the Western Highway duplication.” 

“When water seeps through the road surface the seal on the road can lift. Combined with traffic and weight on the road, cracks can gradually turn into rough patches and potholes.

“We will continue to monitor the road network to identify any repairs and further improvements that can be undertaken in these weather conditions.” 

With conditions such as rain, fog and black ice present, Mr Nevett says drivers should act as a prompt for drivers to remain vigilant.
