The ladder-leading Rebels were too good for the Jets in a scrappy, congested affair, despite an even opening quarter in the TAC Cup under-18s.
Rebels controlled play early on but failed to capitalise on the scoreboard, kicking 1.6 to enter the first change with scores level. The Rebels’ gradually increased intensity to produce a 13-point lead by half-time.
Then they really clicked into gear. Joseph Symons and Jake Edwards were starring.
The Jets admirably kept pushing to the final siren but Rebels David Loader said his team did enough to get the desired result.
“It was an interesting game,” Loader said. “Even though it didn’t rain, I thought it was pretty trying conditions...I don’t think either team played at their best, but to get the points again was a good result.”
Josh Webster continued his excellent season for the Rebels, this time in a new role up forward, while tall Nicholas Hausler provided a target with three goals.
Victory was soured by a hip flexor injury to promising midfielder Jacob Wheelahan.
The Rebels return to Eureka Stadium on Sunday to host country rival Geelong Falcons, the only team to beat them this season.
