Entitled Three, the film will be a directional debut for Sydney actress Genna Chanelle Hayes.
Chanelle Hayes said production was set to commence in the third quarter of 2015 with casting already underway.
Like many before her, she said she chose to film on-location in Ballarat because of its “quaint charm and natural beauty”.
“Country Victoria is energetically a really special place for me, having grown up out here, so I am really excited to capture its beauty on screen.”
Three will deal with current Australian human rights issues including indigenous incarceration and same-sex marriage.
Chanelle Hayes said she had a passion for making films centred around human rights.
“I believe that is where humanity has the most work to do,” she said.
“This film delves into some issues that I hope to build empathy and compassion around, not only in Australia but around the world.
“Also, there is a little love thrown in – for good measure.”
Chanelle Hayes is known for her support of equality and women’s rights around the world.
Her last film Wurinyan, starring Mark Coles Smith, Christine Anu and Hayes herself, was created in order to encourage equality and raise awareness on Australia’s indigenous suicide rates which are the highest in the world.
The film also touched on the need for equal access to education and opportunity across the land.
Genna Chanelle Hayes is an accomplished actress, most recently starring in Chris Sun’s Aussie horror film Charlie’s Farm alongside Hollywood heavyweights Tara Reid, Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder.
