Mr Ketchen, 27, is shaving his head for the charity SIDS and Kids, but he said there is a twist to his campaign.
“Whoever donates the most amount of money will get to choose my hairstyle for a whole week before I shave my head completely the following Friday,” Mr Ketchen said.
“If there is a hairstyle you’ve always wanted to see on someone, but not yourself, get behind this cause and donate.
“Click on the donate link on my Facebook page ‘Shave for SIDS’ that has been set up and then send me a copy of the receipt or just let me know how much you’ve spent and the highest amount will get to pick.
“They’ll be able to choose any hairstyle, colour, shave or whatever they have in mind.”
The people of Ballarat have until Friday, July 24 to make a donation to SIDS and Kids and let Mr Ketchen know. His second cut will come a week later on July 31.
“A little tip could be to group up with friends or work mates and donate in large amounts,” Mr Ketchen said.
“I know a few hairdressers – my aunty is one – so there might be a few people lining up to do it.”
The Ballarat university student said this cause was very close to his heart, after a family friend was effected by SIDS.
“I want to raise as much awareness as possible. The thing is, there is not much known about SIDS,” Mr Ketchen said.
“When I’ve donated my money I put it down to go towards research, we need to find out more about SIDS and what causes it.
“You are able to claim a charity donation on tax every year, so why not donate to a great cause like SIDS and Kids. Every contribution counts.”
SIDS and Kids aims to save the lives of babies during pregnancy, birth, infancy and childhood, while supporting bereaved families.
