It was before Waller took Sydney by storm, winning the past four premierships, to which he will add a fifth in a couple of weeks. It was before he set a record by training 14 group 1 winners this season. But those days travelling with horses shaped Waller's development as a horseman and trainer.

"I feel refreshed. I'm really enjoying the job and sometimes that is lost in this game," Waller said. "It has taken me back to my days as a travelling foreman. Trying to get everything right with your horse and then hoping for the best on race day. He [Brazen Beau] has done everything I have wanted him to do since [Royal] Ascot and is in good shape."

Waller has conquered many fronts since his days looking after Paddy Busuttin's travellers. However a win in the July Cup for the world's biggest stable in Godolphin with stud-bound Brazen Beau would be another peak in a career that continues to reach new heights.

Brazen Beau was a narrow runner-up to Undrafted in last month's Diamond Jubilee down the testing straight at Royal Ascot. He was courageous but debate still rages whether going down the outside of the track by himself cost the I Am Invincible colt victory.

Waller, a master of planning and peaking horses, said before Royal Ascot that he would have liked another couple of weeks training Brazen Beau under English conditions. Heading to the even more undulating July Cup course at Newmarket he has had that.

"I went and walked the track and there is so much history to it like all the courses over here," Waller said. "It is an unique test in that they run downhill and then there is a sharp incline to the post. I'm told if you can find the front and hold your momentum up the hill you can hold on. When we walked, I found out about the planes landing and crashing during the war. That gives you time to think."

Waller will be up early in England keeping tabs on his big teams at Randwick and Flemington on Saturday before heading to Newmarket with Brazen Beau.

"I'm still keeping touch with things in Australia, worksheets and the like, but just being so far away, has refreshed me," he said. "We have some good chances at home and Brazen Beau is ready to go."

The ownership transfer to Godolphin since Royal Ascot has seen a change of rider with Craig Williams replaced in the saddle by James Doyle, who is a retained rider for Shiekh Mohammed.

"I think to have an English rider on a course like [Newmarket] is important," Waller said. "He has come and ridden [Brazen Beau] on three occasions and been really complimentary.

"We have been able to keep working him on inclined gallops and that can only help considering what he faces on Saturday."

Brazen Beau is equal favourite for the July Cup with impressive three-year-old Muhaarar, which won the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. The Australian raider drew barrier 15 in the field of 15.
