The lead changed six times during the first half, setting the theme of the day as a goal-for-goal shootout.
The Towners’ Peter McGettigan slotted a major after the siren to cut the margin to only seven points at the last break, but it wasn’t enough to stop a fast-finishing Creswick outfit from effectively running out the game.
A best-on-ground performance from Liam Hepworth guided the Wickers to a gripping win, as he booted the final two goals of the match.
Creswick is still ninth after the success, but has closed the gap on the top eight to just six points following Beaufort’s defeat.
Wickers coach Damian Lubeek said he was happy to take the win, but believed there is a few areas which let his team down.
“We went away from our structure, but to get the result in conditions like this is always good,” he said.
“We want to set ourselves to win the last six, we will go out against some big dogs. We’re absolutely going to do everything we can, what ever happens with Ballan (now seventh) happens.”
Joel Antonio was sensational for the Wickers in the midfield and was supported through the forward presence of Clint Robinson. The Daville Building Surveying Towners were well served by Aaron Sawers and Jaye Cahir.
