The Magpies led at every change on Saturday and kicked clear in the final term to record the 14.11 (95) to 7.8 (50) victory.
Magpies joint-coach Jason Hill said a pleasing aspect of the triumph was the performances from a string of young players - including debutantes Ryan Quick and Callum Newton – and believed his team’s efficiency was what got it over the line.
“They probably didn’t use it as well as we did. That probably was really the difference,” Hill said.
Hill said Jesse Baird (one goal) was Clunes’ best, while Jayden Hind was wasteful in front of the sticks, but still managed three important conversions.
Justin O’Brien booted three goals for Carngham-Linton, which named Josh Benfield as its leading contributor ahead of the game against Learmonth next weekend. Clunes now eyes Rokewood-Corindhap.
