Ms Morely, who has a starring role in the acclaimed production Strictly Ballroom The Musical, says that her roots are in Daylesford and she does her best to visit her mother Beverly whenever her busy schedule allows.
“I love coming home to Daylesford whenever I can, although it’s not as much as I’d like too,” Ms Morely said.
“With my job I spend a lot of time on the road travelling around. I have lived in Bondi for a long time now – although I haven’t been home there for about three years now – I’ve also recently been living in Las Vegas.
“Mum is still in Daylesford and we have a farm at Glenlyon with sheep and all that stuff, so I am a country girl at heart and love getting back there.”
Ms Morely is currently preparing for another new city location, with the curtain to close on Strictly Ballroom The Musical’s Melbourne season next month.
Strictly Ballroom The Musical had its Melbourne premiere on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Her Majesty’s Theatre to rapturous reviews and thrilled audiences and has since played more than 200 shows.
“It is an amazing cast and a glorious show. This is directed by Baz Luhrmann and the costumes are by Catherine Martin – both are insanely talented,” Ms Morely said.
“My character is Pam Short and together with partner Ken Railings, played by Rohan Browne, we are ballroom champions until Thomas Lacey (Scott Hastings) comes along.
“I’ve done lots of different jobs from musical theatre to film to television. This is up there with one of my bigger roles.”
Ms Morely’s body of work is highly regarded, with a number of choreography roles on films such as The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge and television shows Dancing With The Stars and So You Think You Can Dance.
She has also worked on and appeared in several award winning theatre productions along with Strictly Ballroom, including King Kong, The Boy From Oz and Dirty Dancing.
Ms Morely said it was in Daylesford where she first had dreams of stardom in the entertainment industry.
“My mum has been teaching dance for over 50 years and used to run a dance school in one of the town’s little churches, so I was introduced to performing at a young age,” she said.
Final tickets for Strictly Ballroom The Musical have just been released and those who have not yet seen the popular Melbourne show are being encouraged to book tickets or risk missing out.
Playing the pivotal roles of Scott and Fran are Thomas Lacey and Phoebe Panaretos respectively.
The duo lead the outstanding Australian cast of 43, which also includes Bob Baines, Drew Forsythe, Natalie Gamsu, Robert Grubb and Heather Mitchell.
The final chance to catch the spectacular musical is on Friday, August 28 before it opens in Brisbane in September.
“We finish our Melbourne season at the end of August, so I encourage everyone from the Ballarat and Daylesford areas to come down and see it before we close,” Ms Morely said.
