The Daylesford premiership player and former North Ballarat Rebel is on track to line up for Geelong’s Victorian Football League game against Essendon at Simonds Stadium on Saturday.
Cowan battled four years between AFL games when he made his long-awaited AFL return in May – only to injure his hamstring in the opening minutes. Geelong Cats physiotherapist Mark Young said the 24-year-old midfielder was back to full fitness and clear to play.
West Coast young gun Liam Duggan is likely to miss the remaining season with a knee injury. Duggan, who captained St Patrick’s College football last year, sustained posterior cruciate ligament damage in action for East Perth on Saturday. West Coast football manager Craig Vozzo said Duggan was an important player for the club’s future so the Eagles were not keen to risk anything.
Duggan, aged 18, lined up for 12 straight games for the Eagles from round two in his AFL debut season.
Meanwhile, Hawthorn recruit James Frawley aims to train fully this week and make a return via AFL or VFL from a dislocated shoulder.
INJURY LIST – ADELAIDE: Brad Crouch (foot) 5-7 weeks; BRISBANE: Michael Close (knee) season; HAWTHORN: James Frawley (shoulder) test; RICHMOND: Dan Butler (knee) test; WEST COAST: Mitch Brown (knee) season, Liam Duggan (knee) season.
