The Ballarat Laneways festival will continue on Friday and Saturday, with musicians Rod Gear, Mick Dog’s Boneyard, Kettlespider and The Yard Apes performing free gigs on Friday.
Rod Gear and Mick Dog’s Boneyard will perform between 6pm and 9pm on Friday at the Art Gallery of Ballarat annexe.
The performers will be complemented by the vintage lightshow Spektraflash! which features weird and wonderful colour and movement.
Mick Trembath from Mick Dog’s Boneyard said his act had actively performed across Victoria for the last two years.
“We play swamp jump blues which is good, fun, old-school blues music,” Trembath said.
“We’re coming up to two years now and have been playing across Victoria every weekend at big festivals and have played a lot of gigs in Melbourne CBD and in the country.”
Trembath said outdoor events such as Ballarat Laneways were important for the city’s thriving arts scene.
“It’s great to see the gallery coming to life and it’s such a good space,” he said.
“I think it’s absolutely essential that Ballarat CBD has more outside things and that Ballarat becomes an urban and sophisticated city. It’s good to see us adopting that kind of attitude.”
As well as Mick Dog’s Boneyard and Rod Gear, musical outfits Kettlespider and The Yard Apes will perform between 7pm and 9pm at The Lane.
In between, street performances by The Climate Guardians, Elliott Gee, Mary Rose McLaren and Caroline Packham and Danielle Karalus will roam the byways, nooks and crannies of the Ballarat Laneways corridor of Alfred Deakin Place, Police Lane, George Lane and Armstrong Street.
Presented as part of Ballarat’s 2015 Winterlude Festival, Ballarat Laneways – Local and Live celebrates the very best of Ballarat artistry through interactive light installations, live music concerts, street performances and food and drink.
