The process for the suburb’s first school started with a community consultation session on Tuesday, which attracted about 50 people.
Catholic Education Offtice Ballarat (CEOB) planning, risk and infrastructure manager Brad Carr said the session focused on the planning process, establishing an educational brief and master plan, and the timing for the new school.
”Subject to further consultation and capital funding approval, the proposed date for the new school to be operational on the Lucas site is 2018,” Mr Carr said.
There are no immediate plans for a public school at Lucas.
Department of Education spokesperson Simon Craig said the department did not own a site for a school in the area but had worked with the City of Ballarat to identify a possible site.
Alfredton Primary School principal Laurel Donaldson said the school was growing rapidly and another public school would ease the pressure.
“We would love to think there is another government school to be built,” Ms Donaldson said.
