For the month of July, 27 Ballarat venues put their unique pastry creations on the menu for the public to taste.
Pharmacist Sam Palanca decided to take the challenge after hearing about the inaugural event through a friend.
“I saw something pop-up on Facebook and I shared the link and said I was going to give it a go,” he said.
So far Mr Palanca has devoured six pies from pubs across town, including The Western’s slow cooked Waubra lamb pie, Jackson’s and Co’s beef cheek and mirepoix pie and Golden City Hotel’s cottage pie.
He’s also eaten at North Ballarat Sports Club and the Lake View Hotel.
Mr Palanca said his favourite pie so far is at The Western.
“Everyone loves a pie in winter and there’s not much happening in Ballarat,” he said. The Coopers Pie and Pale Gala is held on Friday July 31.
