A massive 298 wins Australia-wide in the 2014-15 season, which came to an end on Friday.
But such is the nature of the racing industry, it does not stop there.
Weir now faces an even bigger challenge.
And that is to keep the momentum going and build on it
This is not necessarily about more winners though.
As with every trainer, Weir wants to continue his pursuit of more group 1 and other major feature success, as well as greater depth of metropolitan class gallopers.
He has succeeded in this over the past few years and with the continued addition of quality imported gallopers such as Dandino, Signoff and Tall Ship to complement the deeds of Trust In A Gust, Platelet and Lucky Hussler.
And it will on continue.
Weir’s Ballarat and Warrnambool training operations stepped up in just about all aspects in 2014-15.
Season standings:
Australian premiership: first for second year in a row - 298 wins from 1919 starters (253 from 1422 in 2013-14)
Australian metropolitan premiership: third – 101 wins from 717 starters (95 from 457 in 2013-14)
Australian country premiership: first for second year in a row – 197 wins from 1199 starters (158 from 965 in 2013-14)
Victorian premiership: first - 276 wins from 1832 starters (244 from 1387 in 2013-14)
Victorian metropolitan premiership – first for second year in a row – 86 wins from 422 starters (79 from 633 in 2013-14)
Victorian country premiership – first – 197 wins from 1192 starters (158 from 965 in 2013-14)
Weir had seven chances to get his season national grand total of winners to 300 at Pakenham on Friday.
However, he could not get any closer than two seconds.
ANGELA Taylor-Moy is regularly in the winners’ stall in her role with the Darren Weir stable in Ballarat.
But at Swan Hill on Monday, she was there as a trainer in her own right.
Taylor-Moy trained her first winner since the spring of 2010 when Military Shield in a 3yo maiden, 1200m.
The largely family-owned Econsul gelding was having just his seventh start.
REBECCA Standen was another Ballarat trainer to end a run of outs at Swan Hill.
She saddled up Arturo to take out a 0-58 handicap, 1200m – giving the 6yo entire three career successes in 19 starts for almost $40,000 in stakes.
Arturo won on debut at Donald for Standen in January, 2012, but raced only sparingly over the next two years.
