The Kookaburras had their first win since 2012 at Melton’s expense at Marty Busch Reserve on Saturday.
It was a thriller.
Sebastopol got over the line by four points – 13.5 (83) to 12.7 (79)
Boom youngster Rowan Marshall kicked the winning goal in a huge final term.
Melton had a chance to deny the Burra in the dying minutes, but was unable to get the job done for newly reappointed coach Brad Murphy.
Marshall, who is on the VFL list of North Ballarat Roosters, is arguably the recruit of the year in the BFL, so it was appropriate he had hada such a big hand in a day to remember for Sebastopol.
He has represented the BFL with distinction and earned a spot in the AFL Victorian representative training squad – as well as making his VFL debut.
Sebastopol stormed home after Melton made most of the running in the first half.
The Bloods led by 21 points at half-time.
Melton and Sebastopol went goal-for-goal in the third term, each adding five as the Bloods maintained a 19-point break.
However, the last quarter belonged almost exclusively to an inspired Sebastopol, which finished with a rush - four goals straight to one behind.
