The Burras took the points over Creswick 45-44 to keep the Saints outside the top eight. Hepburn went into the encounter in eighth position - two premiership points and one position better off than Creswick.
With just two home and away rounds, this gives Hepburn climbs to seventh with a little breathing space, but it is still not locked in for the finals.
While a win would have resulted in Creswick displacing Hepburn, the Saints still remain within touch of the top eight. It remains four points adrift of now eight-placed Bungaree, which suffered a heavy 71-35 loss at the hands of Buninyong.
Beaufort also missed an opportunity to edge closer to a finals berth - being outclassed by Ballan 53-18.
