AFL: Henderson signs for three years

RICKY Henderson has signed a new three-year-old deal with the Adelaide Crows.

Henderson, who turned 24 on Tuesday, has played 40 AFL games since debuting in 2010.

The Crows plucked him from obscurity in the 2009 rookie draft.

Henderson was a rising star point guard for the Ballarat Miners in the South East Australian Basketball League.

Adelaide recruiter Hamish Ogilvie spotted Henderson at a basketball talent identification camp in 2008.

He played a handful of games with Trentham in the Maryborough and Castlemaine District Football League to become eligible for draft.

"For someone with a limited background in football, Ricky has come a long way in his short time with the club," Adelaide list manager David Noble told AAP today.

"We believe he still has plenty of room to improve and are pleased he has committed to the club for another three years," he said.
