A Tasmanian teenager wanted in connection with a serious sexual attack on an elderly woman will be extradited from Victoria following his arrest in Melbourne's western suburbs.

A 70-year-old woman was assaulted in her West Launceston home about 1.40am last Wednesday, Tasmanian police allege.
An 18-year-old man fled Tasmania hours later, before the assault had been reported to police.
The teen appeared briefly before Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday, when the court heard he was wanted to face allegations of rape and aggravated burglary.
Magistrate Timothy Bourke approved his extradition. The teen, from West Launceston, would be flown out of Melbourne on Thursday afternoon, the court heard.
Victorian police said the teen was arrested at a friend's home in Sunshine, by Victorian and federal police, acting on a request from their Tasmanian counterparts.
Detective Inspector John King, of Tasmania Police, said a detailed description of the alleged offender and forensic evidence helped officers find the teenager.
