The rabble-rousing cousin to the Archibald Prize, the exhibition features an 'alternative' selection of portraits from hundreds of entries to the Archibald and Wynne Prizes.
“While the Archibald Prize is considered the most prestigious portrait prize in the country, there’s a lively selection of the ones that got away, which features those portraits too fabulous to resist,” Morrison said.
The portrait, entitled Gordon Morrison and the Dusty Miller and painted by artist Paul Borg, will be hung at the S H Ervin’s Salon des Refusés exhibition in the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery.
Morrison said the Salon des Refusés was a wonderful opportunity to see a range of excellent portraits that didn't make the Archibald finals but still met the demanding criteria of quality, diversity, humour and innovation.
The Salon des Refusés will be on show from October 9 while the Archibald Prize will be held at the Art Gallery of Ballarat from October 3 as part of its regional tour.
It is expected that visitors from Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania will take advantage of the opportunity to see the exhibition in Ballarat.
“The Art Gallery of Ballarat is the only gallery in Victoria and the only one outside NSW to host the exhibition,” Morrison said.
