Firsts and seconds divisions are set to play four 20-overs-per-side fixtures for premiership points in a revamped format to the competition.
The Courier understands two Twenty20 fixtures will be played on a Sunday in November and another two on a Saturday in the weekend before Christmas.
BCA director Mark Grogan said the shortened season – as a result of a late AFL grand final and early Easter in 2016 – had presented an opportunity to trial Twenty20 matches in place of one-day fixtures.
It is expected there will not be any one-day fixtures in the firsts and seconds next season.
Grogan said the Twenty20 games would mean 14 rounds where premiership points would be up for grabs.
He said the matches would still contribute towards a separate Twenty20 competition, where leading teams would progress to a finals series.
Grogan said it was envisaged that the round before Christmas would see all grades of competition – including juniors – take part in Twenty20 fixtures during the weekend.
As a result of the format change, marquee players won’t be permitted to play in the four Twenty20 matches during the regular season, but can return for the finals.
Grogan said the format change was a trial and could be a direction the association continued with down the track.
He said the clubs seemed to be accepting of the concept so far.
“I think it’s a little bit different and exciting for everybody. (It’s a) different way of thinking and I think clubs are looking forward to it,” Grogan said.
Grogan said the trial and feedback would give some “real data” to help in the BCA’s future planning.
The BCA is expected to release the full 2015-16 fixture following its annual general meeting on August 17.
An integration of district teams into the traditional club competition has been part of an off-season revamp by the association.
