Ms Ridsdale’s Food is Free initiative, that saw neighbours put free food on their doorstep, has grown too big for the laneway it was started in and will relocate to the Western Oval.
The new site will give community members easier access to food and allow them drop off boxes in a safe, well lit area.
Next year the Ms Ridsdale hopes to expand the project into a community vegetable patch.
“In time, I’d very much like to see gardening beds at the Food is Free Ballarat site,” Ms Ridsdale said.
She said the building phase of the project would not begin until renovation of the brass band hall at the oval was complete.
Ms Ridsdale said the secret to Food is Free was the community.
“Without the people involved it wouldn’t be anything,” she said.
She was not worried about vandals at the new site.
“If it gets destroyed, it won’t stop us, we’ll just rebuild,” she said.
