The tour arrives in Bendigo, Castlemaine and Ballarat next week before heading to Melbourne and Geelong.
It will be the first time since 2011 that Washington will play in central Victoria.
She was last in Bendigo for Groovin the Moo in 2011 where she played alongside Art vs Science, Birds of Tokyo and The Wombats.
“I remember it was a really fantastic tour but they tend to be just a blur,” she said.
After playing at Splendour in the Grass alongside the likes of Blur, Florence and the Machine and Tame Impala, Washington will play 32 gigs before the tour ends in September.
She is looking forward to the challenge of a packed tour schedule.
“It’s really fun. I quite like the challenge of a big, tough tour. At the end of it it makes you feel like you’ve achieved something,” she said.
“I also prefer playing smaller venues because I really like people.
“I like to interact with people. I like to be able to say things at a show and hear people yell out songs they want you to play.
“It’s a nicer experience than for me than singing at a faceless sea (of people).”
The Tangents Tour comes of the back of Washington 2014 album There There.
It is Washington’s second studio album after her 2010 debut I Believe You Liar. She also had an EP titled Insomnia in 2011.
Between studio album Washington said she “had to live some life”.
“I had to chill out and I needed something to write,” she said.
“That can come from anywhere for me. I have been making a lot of songs on on my laptop lately.
“My drummer and guitarist taught me how to use (the music program) and I have been making it up as I go along.
“It is all sounding much more simple than if I was writing (music) at the piano.”
As well as creating new music, Washington enjoys playing the music that bought her to notice.
“Last night I was writing a list of (my own) songs I know how to play solo and I got to 30 songs which was weird,” she said.
“I kind of prefer to play old things I haven’t done for a while (at shows).
“It is a refresher on how to play it, otherwise you could just forget it.”
Washington plans to head back to the studio in October.
Washington’s Tangents Tour arrives at The Bridge Hotel in Castlemaine on August 19, MusicMan Megastore in Bendigo on August 20 and Karova Lounge in Ballarat on August 21. For more information or to buy tickets visit http://villagesounds.oztix.com.au
