Seventy-year-old Yvonne Apted awoke to two masked crooks in her Toora Court house about 4.10am.
It is believed the offenders gained entry to the house via a window before carrying out their targeted attack.
One of the people, believed to be a man, violently shoved Mrs Apted to the ground - busting her face open in the process - before stealing $600 and her car, and fleeing with another masked person.
The money belonged to Mrs Apted's daughter, Tee-na Apted, who owns Ravenswood Takeaway.
The car - a Honda Rav 4 - was retrieved from Corra Linn about 10.30am on Sunday in good condition, but the two people remain on the run from police.
On Monday, Launceston detective senior sergeant Bob Baker said police believe Mrs Apted was targeted for a reason.
"We don't believe this was random,'' he said. "I'm of the belief that they knew there was cash there.''
Detective Senior Sergeant Baker said Mrs Apted was recovering from her injuries.
"When you're pushed at that age you're going to be a bit sore,'' he said.
Mrs Apted has received medication and remains shaken, but hopes her attackers will come to their senses.
"I hope they're ashamed for what they've done to an older lady,'' she said.
Mrs Apted said she wasn't scared at the time and has thanked police for their help and support.
"I had blood running down my face. I wasn't scared but I was worried. The police have been very helpful. They were (at my house) before anyone else.''
Tasmania Police has urged anyone with information to contact Launceston CIB on 6777 3911, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
