His life experience inspires his work as a musician, and his rich stories will be shared when the singer songwriter visits Ballarat next week.
Fusing soulful music with his powerful voice, Edwards’ music reflects on life as an Aboriginal man in white Australia.
A storyteller of passion and spirit, he invites his audiences on a journey of understanding, insight and memories.
Born on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, Edwards is among the many of the stolen generations.
It was in 1991 that his music career kick-started, when he was coerced into joining rock bands Watbalimba and later Blackfire.
As the Blackfire lead singer, he toured both locally and internationally with his band, releasing two albums and supporting Carlos Santana on his 1996 Australian tour.
A few years later, and Edwards released his debut solo album Cooinda, working alongside greats including Paul Hester, Paul Kelly and David Bridie.
His career continued to escalate from there, with the performer releasing more albums and continuing to tour Australia.
Edwards is now working on his next album entitled Beneath the Surface, and has kept busy performing at events including WOMADelaide, the Canberra Centenary celebrations, the Garma Festival, a tour and the National Folk Festival.
Kutcha Edwards will take to the stage in Ballarat as part of the Festival of Slow Music and to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the Victorian Indigenous Art Awards.
He will perform at the Art Gallery of Ballarat on Wednesday, August 26 at 7.30pm.
