The ‘Legend Blimp’ is en route to Adelaide from Melbourne, with inclement weather keeping it in town a little longer than anticipated.
“As soon as we can we will keep going towards Adelaide, but the weather for the next couple of days looks really poor,” chief blimp pilot Mark Finney said.
“We can't fly in high winds, so we'll try and leave on Saturday.”
Amazingly, there are more astronauts in the world than there are blimp pilots.
Mr Finney, who is from the UK, has flow blimps in a number of countries during his 15-year career. Spending a few days occupying Ballarat airspace he told The Courier he's noticed a few distinct features.
"The thing that has struct me about Ballarat is the grid-like pattern, which isn't very English, and there are some incrediably wide streets," he said.
"I was also surprised to see the lake in the middle of town as well."
Appliances Online is leasing the aircraft as an advertising campaign, which Mr Finney said is proven seller. Sales in Whitman's Chocolates peaked during the company’s advertisement campaign during the early 2000s, while Goodyear Tyres is another long running blimp promoter.
