The 23.22 (160) to 3.11 (29) victory wasn’t enough to see them reclaim sixth spot on the ladder however, with Sunbury’s victory over Melton shutting the door and ensuring the Cobra’s long finals drought continues.
The Burra’s began the much better side, jumping the Cobras with the first five scoring shots of the game. The problem was, only one found the middle of the big sticks. This lack of scoreboard pressure allowed Bacchus Marsh to easily regroup and hit the front by 11 points at the first break.
From there it was all the Cobras, with the home side piling on 20 goals to two after the first change to run away with the match.
Ben Peters was best afield, showcasing his goal scoring abilities by booting three majors in five minutes to begin the third term, while young future stars Hamish Coulton and Tim Sutherland both had impressive matches.
For Sebastopol, Rowan Marshall was dominant in the ruck while livewire forward Michael Powell looked dangerous early, booting two of his team’s three goals.
Bacchus Marsh’s Peter Shepherd secured the Tony Lockett Medal for league leading goal kicker with six goals, supported by Peters, Coulton and Jackson Bolton with three apiece.
The Cobras missed the finals by 18 percentage points, left to rue a loss against Ballarat last week.
