The Rebels have secured a top-two spot In TAC Cup under-18s, with third-ranked Murray Bushrangers two games behind, but final round results will determine whether the Rebels stay atop the ladder or slip to Dandenong Stingrays.
This also means the Rebels have a guaranteed double-chance in finals, and at least two finals’ exposure for players to both push their games to the next level and impress potential recruiters.
We’re just tinkering with a few things...as we march towards a finals campaign
- Rebels head coach David Loader
Rebels head coach David Loader said the quality Calder Cannons, and the tough hit-out they served up, was handy preparation.
“Every week’s going to be important, we’ve just got to really fine-tune some stuff,” Loader said. “We’re not far away from playing the brand of footy we want to play. We’re just tinkering with a few things and we’ll probably do that again next week as we march towards a finals campaign.”
The Rebels final round challenge is at home against finals contender Oakleigh, which the Rebels beat by 28 points in early May. Meanwhile, North Ballarat Roosters will not play Victorian Football League finals but have a chance to finish as high as ninth.
