A BALLARAT man is preparing to put on his blue suede shoes and return to 1956 this weekend.
Tim Byrne has been invited to showcase his vintage HWM replica Jaguar at this weekend's Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
The car will take part in the Repco historic demonstration and will also feature in a special tribute to Sir Stirling Moss.
The 50th anniversary of the original 1956 Grand Prix at Albert Park will be celebrated with laps of the track by cars that featured during that famous weekend.
Mr Byrne said Mr Moss had driven his HWM Jag twice in the past and could not believe that it was a replica.
"He loved driving it, he couldn't believe how well made it was and said it was one of the best replicas he had ever seen," Mr Byrne said.
"There's only about five originals in the world and they're absolutely priceless.
"I just think it's a great honour for a Ballarat car to be invited to take part this weekend."
Mr Byrne said he bought the car - which can reach speeds in excess of 200kmh - about 10 years ago and may look at selling it in the UK after this weekend's event.
