But because of a flawed AFL Victoria rule, he will be forced to watch the BFL finals from the sidelines.
The towering Staley, who played 14 VFL games for North Ballarat this season, has not been picked for the Roosters’ last home and away match for the year.
In previous seasons this would have allowed him to play finals with his home club, provided he had played the mandatory three matches for the Roos, which he has.
However, the new rule introduced this season make him ineligible as he has played more than 10 VFL games. As long as the Roosters’ season is still alive, players not selected should be able to play in lower leagues.
It would be a different story if North’s season was over (which it will be next week) and all of a sudden there were 22 players able to come back to lower leagues.
But while the Roosters are still playing, surely those not required for VFL duties should be able to have a kick somewhere.
