Patrick, the world’s oldest bare-nosed wombat, is the star of a new picture book.
Ballarat children’s author Yvonne Horsfield was inspired to write about the lovable marsupial when she took two Swedish girls to meet him.
“They loved Patrick and told all their friends back home about him,” Mrs Horsfield said.
“I saw the article earlier this year about Patrick and I thought ‘what a great little story’.”
The author of three children’s books employed her son Garth to do the illustrations.
On Sunday she launched the story book to a gaggle of children, all at the Ballarat Wildlife Park to celebrate Patrick’s 30th birthday.
Mrs Horsfield’s book launch coincided with Book Week.
“I went to schools and read the book, the children loved it,” Mrs Horsfield said.
It can be purchased from the wildlife park.
