Ballarat’s No Lights No Lycra event will return next week, offering dancers a chance to shake off the winter chill and celebrate the start of spring.
After hibernating for the winter, the event invites dance lovers the opportunity to bust a move no matter how good or bad those moves may be.
No Lights No Lycra Ballarat ambassador Rebecca Perovic said the one-hour dance party was for the pure joy of dancing.
“At the heart of NLNL is the belief that everyone can dance. Put simply, you can dance like no one is watching because no one is,” she said.
“There is no light, no lycra, no teacher, no steps to learn, no technique, just free movement. No Lights No Lycra is a place where you can completely let go and shake out the stresses of the week in a friendly, non-threatening, drug and alcohol free atmosphere.
”We would love to reach some more Ballarat dancers to help us celebrate our spring return.”
NLNL is a global dance community providing an inclusive and non-judgemental place for people to explore the notion that dancing is for everyone.
The idea came about in 2009 and is the brainchild of Melbourne dance students Alice Glenn and Heidi Barrett.
Ms Perovic said the event brought people together to experience the freedom of self-expression and joy.
No Lights No Lycra Ballarat will be held on Monday, September 7 at 7.30pm to 8.30pm at Victorian Railways Institute Hall, Lydiard Street North. Tickets cost $5. For more information, visit nolightsnolycra.com or the NLNL Ballarat Facebook page.
