For Ballarat City firefighter Gerard Mann the task is not impossible – it is something he is trained to do and will attempt this Saturday.
Mr Mann will join 343 career and volunteer firefighters for the second annual Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb at Crown Metropol.
They hope to collectively raise $250,000 for the Peter MacCallum cancer centre.
Mr Mann hopes to beat his 2014 time of five minutes, while wearing a breathing apparatus.
“I see it as a great way to raise money for charity and to help people, which is why I chose a career in firefighting,” Mr Mann said.
“The Peter MacCallum centre is a cause close to all our hearts, we all know someone who has been affected by cancer.”
Mr Mann said firefighting is very active job that requires a high level of fitness. The climb merely replicates a normal part of his job.
